Project Introduction

Kheta Embroidery, art of decorating material, primarily textile fabric, by means of a needle and thread (and sometimes fine wire). The basic techniques include crewel work, needlepoint, cross-stitch embroidery, and quilting, as well as quillwork and featherwork. Kheta Embroidery Categories into three main types: counted-thread, freestyle and whitework. Women in Bihar’s Shershabadi community are the only artisans who create fine examples of Kheta embroidery, based on the motifs of river and the life around it. The ripples of the river, the movement of the earthworms and textures of the pan patta (betel leaf) — these are the motifs that find space in the Kheta embroidery that is peculiar to Bihar’s Shershabadi community.

Process of Manufacture

1. Start embroidering from the center.
2. Do a markup of 10/10 cells using a marker specially crafted for fabric.
3. Correlate the notation symbols with the thread codes in the organizer carefully.
4. embroidering with two strands, it’s quite handy to fold one of them in half, thread it in your needle and fasten it on the canvas with a loop. an odd number of strands (one or three), then pass the working strand through several canvas threads and fasten it with a stitch.
5. Pay attention to how tight the stitches are. If stitches too tightly, especially the bottom ones, then the fabric will allow light through and the image may become skewed.
6. All the decorative seams should be embroidered in the end, after the cross stitch part has been completed.
